Here we have a very rare & special project, definitely not the faint hearted but very rewarding to the owner that sees this project to the end,

SBM660R was built in 1989 by Norman who is the Stratos Enthusiasts Club Chairman

A January 1977 Registered Lancia Beta Coupe was used as a Donor for the purchased Allora kit,
Correctly updated V5 document & Vin present on current vehicle

Originally powered by the Beta’s 1.8ltr Twin Cam, Beta Brakes & rear struts etc

The current owner purchased the car in 2002 & ran it for a couple of years as fun weekend transport before a bump on a back road where the car sustained light damage to the o/s/r
Following an eventual payout by the offending parties insurance company it was decided a full rebuild & substantial improvements would be made to turn it into a Clubman Forest spec Rally Car

And so the improvements began,

The intention was to be able to run with both standard & Group 4 bodywork as & when required

The centre tub was repaired using a Hawk side panel by a local boat builder

A multipoint Rollcage inc Door bars was fabricated by Fabricage / built to FIA Motorsport specs & fitted by Experienced Coded welder David Dingwall @ Kincraig Smithy inc certification
A local MSA Scrutineer has inspected & was very complimentary of the job

At the same time the rear wishbones were upgraded using a higher spec material & for use with spherical bearings replacing the nylon ones previously fitted
The Steel Jig is included to produce replacements if ever required

The inner chassis mount for the lower wishbones were modified to accept the spherical bearings fitted to the inner end of the wishbones

The front damper mounts were moved to reduce the angle the dampers sat at, this prevents the falling rate spring situation on the original cars

The front upper wishbones were strengthened for Forest Rallying, bumps & jumps etc

The steering rack was moved to reduce / eliminate bump steer, this took many hours of measuring & re-measuring

The heart of the project required another special component,
A Tuned 3.0ltr Alfa V6 engine & gearbox upgraded & supplied by Dave Carson
( brother to Hugh Carson who purchased the Allora project & developed it into the Corse )
The engine was actually removed from his Corse
Upgraded cylinder heads, race cams & fully mappable ECU with a claimed 256 bhp output

Plate type LSD & 5 Speed Gearbox
LSD will require shimming correctly before use, shims provided

A bespoke all Alloy foam filled fuel cell was built by S&M Engineering in North Wales

All Alloy Hi-Spec 4 pot radial brake callipers were purchased for use with Alfa 147 280mm vented discs front & rear,
Competition Tilton fully adjustable bias pedal box

Adjustable Subaru Steering column

Having both adjustable will massively improve the driving position even for bigger lads or lass’s

Group 4 Wheel arch kit

Spare Centre tub & Rear Clam

Rear & side windows present, a new front screen will be required but is available from LB Specialist Cars as recently discussed

A new fireproof bulkhead will require fabrication

Road car dashboard & instrument panel but the intention was to use a Group 4 style instrument inc a stack intelligent rev counter ( included )

The original wiring loom is present along with the Alfa V6 engine loom & Programable ECU

The car is pretty much ready after it’s dry build & fitting for all parts to be removed & start making it pretty with powder coating & some nice paintwork

There’s no doubting there’s massive work to do but what a project !!!

With 70s & 80s cars @ an all time Cool, cost & waiting lists for LB Cars, prices of Stratos HF Recreations @ an all time high this project makes it not only a Fun project but a financially viable project
